Doctor Victor Peter Chang (1936-1991) was a renown cardiac and transplant surgeon born in Shanghai, China to Chinese-Australian parents. He was murdered during a failed kidnap and extortion attempt in Mosman on 4 July, 1991 by two Malaysian nationals. Chew Seng (Ah Sung) Liew was charged and convicted of the murder of Victor Chang while his accomplice Phillip Choon Tee Lim was convicted of supplying the gun to Liew and plotting to extort millions of dollars from Dr Chang. Both served time in custody and were deported to Malaysia upon the expiry of their sentences.
