- Scope and ContentIn this interview Marie talks about her relative, Minnie Wearne, who was the first headmistress of the Methodist Ladies College (MLC) Burwood. She recounts the family history of the Wearnes coming from Cornwall on the ship called ‘The Harbinger’ in 1838. Marie describes the family’s country property at Bonnyrigg and how the family managed wealth distribution, especially for maiden aunts. She describes life with her husband Dr Peter Parnell in rural practices and at Campbelltown and explains how patients sometimes paid him in kind with hams, sponge cakes, shortbread and vegetables. She describes her life as a nurse and unusual duties such as having to cook special meals for patients.
