  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Elsie Edna Leverton was born on 27 July 1898 in Sydney, New South Wales. She grew up with her brother and three sisters in Harris Park, and, in her adult life, lived on Royston Street, Kings Cross. She worked as a tailoress and had some connection to the Sydney Masonic community, attending various social events. She died on 8 January 1979 in Kings Cross, Sydney.

    The founder of H. L. Orr & Co. photography studio was Henry Lavington Orr, born on 20 July 1874 in Melbourne, Victoria. From as early as 1897, he was advertising as H. L. Orr, photographer, based at 4 Mackenzie Street, Leichhardt and his photographs of social events were published in various newspapers at the time. By 1911, the studio of H. L. Orr & Co. had moved to 117 Liverpool Street, Sydney, and by 1913, they were at 83 Elliott Street, Balmain. He died on 25 December 1959 in Sydney.
