Inscribed "H. Goodes ; Mudgee" on recto and "H. Goodes, Artistic Photographer (near Dickson & Sons), Lewis Street, Mudgee" on verso. There is also the inscription on verso "Secure the Shadow ere the Substance Fade", a phrase associated with the category of postmortem photography, however it is unclear whether the young woman in the photograph is alive or deceased.
