    John Yeomans (1916-1995) was a Sydney-based journalist and author. He worked for John Fairfax papers for 30 years until he retired as a sub-editor on the Sydney Morning Herald in 1992. His career as a print journalist began in 1934 with a cadetship at the Wagga Advertiser. He wrote for Illawarra Star, Daily Advertiser, Labor Daily (Daily News) before he joined the Sunday Telegraph in November 1939.
    He enlisted in 1940 and served five years in the AIF before rejoining Daily Telegraph in 1945. Later he spent five years in London and New York as staff correspondent for Australian Associated Newspapers, a year in Stockholm as string correspondent for the Melbourne Herald Group, a couple of years as sub-editor on the Daily Mirror in London and five years with the ABC as a senior current affairs producer and television director,
    He won the Walkley national award for headline writing in 1987. His most well known book was written about his trip around Australia between May and September 1965 - 'The scarce Australians'.
