  • General note

The documentary film, ‘Red Matildas’ (1985), explores the social and political conditions in Australia during the Great Depression that provoked the film’s subjects, Audrey Blake, Joan Goodwin and May Pennefather, to join the Communist Party and become political activists. The “story of their stand against injustice” is illustrated using archival footage and includes some of the interviews from this collection.
