  • Scope and Content
Scott Marsh begins by talking about how he negotiates his anonymous physical identity as an artist. He reflects on his early graffiti period, including Sydney’s ‘very violent graffiti scene’ and the ‘ego sport’ of territorial train painting, Sydney’s unique graffiti and New York influences.

Scott talks about his status as an Australian political artist, his influences and how his political artwork came into being. He talks about the life of his artworks, how long they remain in a public space, who removes them and their continued life in digital form. He also talks about the inception and concepts of Brandalism and art responses to climate policy, including a guerrilla art project and fundraising initiative played out over three states during the 2019-2020 Bushfire Crisis.

Marsh discusses his political works executed in Sydney as well as community reactions to controversial murals produced in support of the ‘Yes’ campaign for Marriage Equality. Finally, Scott talks about what constitutes ‘a good wall’, his art process, materials used, technological changes with painting, navigating security in the graffiti scene and current works relating to the subject of Aboriginal deaths in custody.
