- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
John Souter was born on 5 August 1824 in Birmingham, England. On 15 April 1854, he married Lavinia Tucker in Ophir, New South Wales, and after her death in 1866, he married Susanna Weekley, in Stoney Creek, New South Wales on 8 July 1867. Their daughter, Hilda Gertrude May, was born in 1885 in or near Gulgong, New South Wales, where John was the practicing chemist. He established branches in the gold rush village of Home Rule, and later on Queen Street (renamed Mayne Street), Gulgong. He died on 15 December 1901 in Ashfield, Sydney. Hilda died on 2 September 1963.
