  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Thomas George Hockey was born in Sydney around 1920 and grew up in Bondi. He received formal art training and made a successful living as a professional artist, residing in Marrickville and then in Woy Woy until his death on 19 November 2004.

    Work was exhibited as part of 'Sydney Through the Artist's Eyes 1840s - 1980s' Bicentennial exhibition, Woolloomooloo Gallery, Sydney, 1988
  • Scope and Content
    Oil on board painting depicting a streetscape looking east from Darlinghurst to Kings Cross, probably from an upper level window probably on Yurong Street or Riley Street. Visible in the background is the Kingsgate tower, at 94 Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point, with "Hyatt" written on its facade; it was branded the Hyatt Kingsgate hotel in 1981. The Chards Building, at 171-175 William Street, Darlinghurst, can also be identified by the "ABC 2FC 2BL" sign; ABC Radio Sydney owned the building until 1991.
