Paul Cropper has researched animal folklore in Australia since 1975. He has co-authored three books on the subject, 'Out of the Shadows, Mystery Animals of Australia', 1994, ‘The Yowie: in search of Australia’s Bigfoot', 2006 and ‘The Yowie File, Encounters with Australian Ape-men’, 2023.

Yowies are believed to be ape-like creatures that inhabit the Australian wilderness and reports can be found in Australian newspapers from early colonial times. Depending on geographic location, Aboriginal Australians have many different names for yowies including doolagarl, quinkin, joogabinna, jurrawarra, jimbra, thoolagal and junjudee.
