  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    George F. Halsted was an Australian artist active in Sydney from the 1860s to the 1880s, known for his paintings and watercolours (dated as early as 1852 and as late as 1883) variously signed "G.F. Halsted", "F. Halsted", or simply "G.F.H.". His works were exhibited with the NSW Academy of Arts, the Agricultural Society of NSW and the Art Society of New South Wales, the latter of which he was an inaugural committee member.

    Oil on canvas view of Sydney Harbour, looking north to Johnstons Bay over Blackwattle Bay from Glebe Point, towards East Balmain and the Glebe Island Bridge, known as Blackbutt Bridge (1861-1903). Visible in the foreground are a seated man and woman, and on the water, a sailboat and steam ferry can be seen.
