Leigh Hobbs is an Australian children’s book author/illustrator. He works across a variety of mediums and is best known for his books featuring the following characters: Old Tom, Horrible Harriet, Fiona the Pig, Mr Badger, The Freaks in 4F and Mr Chicken.

Hobbs has written and illustrated 24 books and illustrated many more. The first book he wrote and illustrated was Old Tom, which was published by Puffin Books in 1994. Old Tom was adapted into a popular French / Australian 52 episode animated TV series, and Mr Chicken was adapted for the stage by the National Institute for the dramatic Arts.

Horrible Harriet is one of Hobbs’ most recognisable characters, first appearing in Horrible Harriet in 2001. Horrible Harriet was shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year Award, as was Old Tom’s Holiday in 2003. Horrible Harriet was adapted for the stage and appeared in a production at The Sydney Opera House in 2017. Horrible Harriet and the Terrible Tantrum (2021) is the fourth in the Horrible Harriet series.
