  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Danny Abood aka Daniel Archer or Miss Abood was born on the 25 May 1954. An Australian with Lebanese heritage, Abood worked as a performance artist in Australia and the United States and was a key member of the Sydney radical drag performance troupes 'Sylvia and the Synthetics' and 'Cabaret Conspiracy', alongside other performers including Doris Fish (Philip Mills) and Jacqueline Hyde.
Abood spent time in New York in the 1980s where he modelled. He wrote a regular column, “20 Minutes with Miss Abood”, in 'Icon' magazine in the early 1990s. For many years he had a stall at Sydney’s popular weekly Surry Hills Market selling items he decoupaged, a craft described as suiting his “obsessional nature” and the image of Abood standing in his front garden in suburban Eastwood sees him surrounded by decoupage works. The image was one of an original series of eleven photographs created by Mischkulnig for the exhibition Regarding Retro at Blacktown Arts Centre. The exhibition toured regional galleries across Australia between 2005 and 2006.
Martin Mischkulnig has worked in commercial and documentary photography since the 1980s undertaking assignments in architecture, portraiture, commercial branding and more recently, drone photography. He states on his website that a constant theme throughout his photographic career has been “that of situating people in their environments reaffirming their place in the world”. He holds an MA in Film Studies from Staffordshire University and the Raindance Film School, London.
Danny Abood died in Sydney in May 2021 after a prolonged illness.
