  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Dawn Swane was born on 10 April 1933 in Ermington, New South Wales. She trained as a ballet dancer at the Sadler's Wells School (now the Royal Ballet School) in London and toured extensively through Europe. From 1958, she began working in television make up for ABC TV in Australia and Granada in London, and, in 1966, established her own make up school, the 3 Arts Make-Up Centre, in Sydney. Whilst in Denmark in the 1950s, she had bought a movie camera and captured many moments from her career and the artists she encountered. She died in Neutral Bay, New South Wales on 13 October 2020.

    164 glass plate negatives and 4 photographic prints of studio portraits by the Eden Society Studio, the Midget Co. and Alpha Studios of ANZAC soldiers (First World War / WWI), weddings, men, women and children taken between approximately 1893 and 1931.

    8 plates of individual and group portraits of men, First World War ANZAC soldiers and nurses. 4 photographic prints in cabinet card format by the Midget Co. studio and the Eden Society Studios depicting portraits of a man and several women.
