  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Archivides Kalokerinos was born on 28 September 1927 in Glen Innes, New South Wales. He studied medicine at the University of Sydney in 1951 and then spent six years in England training as a surgeon. Upon returning to Australia in 1957, he was appointed Medical Superintendent of the hospital in Collarenebri, New South Wales. Over the following years, until at least 1975, he worked in Collarenebri and visited towns in the Nothern Territory documenting health issues among Indigenous children. He died on 1 March 2012.

  • Scope and Content
    88 Kodak colour slides of children and adults in Indigenous communities including Collarenebri, Papunya and Alice Springs, taken by Archie Kalokerinos during several visits made between 1957 and 1973 for the purposes of health assessment. Some slides are captioned, identifying various medical conditions, and individuals named include Glen Dettman; Mum Shirl; "son of Albert"; Helmut; Paul Murphy. Members of the Pintupi group are also identified.
