  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

June Bartlett was born in Longueville, Sydney, 1920. She attended North Sydney Girls High School and completed a Bachelor of Arts at Sydney University, 1941. During university, Bartlett was involved in various groups including inter-varsity women's tennis and Sydney University Women's Land Army. After graduation she was the Secretary of the Sydney University Women’s Union and captain of the NSW Hockey team. June traveled overland from London, United Kingdom, through Europe and Africa, to Durban, South Africa, with two female friends, Jean Duncan Taylor and Audrey Healy, 1954-1955.

June’s sister, Patricia Bartlett, was born in 1923. She trained as a physiotherapist before pursuing a singing career, winning a scholarship in opera to the College of Music, London. In 1953 she was selected as one of nine Australians to sing in the choir at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.

The Bartlett sisters were the granddaughters of Peter O’Neil who served 42 years in the NSW Premier’s Department.
