Benja Harney is a self-taught paper engineer who established his business, Paperform, in 2004. He has worked nationally and internationally creating pop-up books, paper sculpture, installations, packaging, set design and more for global brands, organisations, artists and musicians. In 2012, he was named Best Visual Artist at the FBI Sydney Music, Art and Culture Awards. He has a Sydney-based studio, Studio Paperform.

BOX 1
Crave Sydney International Food Festival, 2012

Paper models created as branding assets for the Crave Sydney International Food Festival, 2012.

1 Chinese takeaway box containing noodles, 3 prawns, 3 carrot sticks, 2 lime wedges, along with 1 packet assorted garnishes, 1 pair chopsticks, 2 round chopstick rests (?)

1 lettuce, 1 pineapple, 2 tomatoes, 1 green apple, 3 carrots, 1 banana, 3 cherries, 1 cheese wedge

2 asparagus stalks, 3 large dark red cubes (pieces of sashimi?), 3 pieces ginger, 3 pieces yellow sauce drizzle, 4 small green cubes, 5 small white cubes, 2 pieces sushi bed (1 green, 1 cream)

Mardi Gras, 2011

Paper models created as part of the art campaign directed by Técha Noble for the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, 2011.

2 text panels (“Say Something ; Mardi Gras 11”), 1 face, 3 square and rectangular geometric layered pieces, 3 speech bubbles (1 black, 2 white), 1 heart-shaped flamingo, 2 semi-circle pieces, 1 mouth with separate lip piece, 6 zigzag pieces, 1 packet assorted arrows, crosses, strips and other small paper decorations.

Also included are the printed and pocket Season Guides for Mardi Gras 2011.

BOX 3
Sydney Opera House, 2010

Paper diorama commissioned for the Sydney Opera House Open Day poster, 24 October 2010.

1 base with attached opera house sails, 1 Sydney ferry, 5 multicolour geometric flags, 1 hot air balloon, 1 sun, 1 rainbow, 1 tree with multicolour leaves, 1 banner of piano keys, 1 pair legs in pointe shoes, 1 cello, 1 drum, 1 saxophone, 2 music notes, 9 white cloud pieces.

Also included are two activity sheets for a make-your-own miniature Opera House.

OREO, 2016

Three 3D paper panels created for an Instagram campaign for the Australian Olympic Team, Rio Games, 2016.

1 scene featuring an astronaut, rocket ship and a female gymnast on the uneven bars apparatus.
1 scene featuring a female synchronized swimmer underwater with a giant squid.
1 scene featuring two female swimmers in the water in front of a tree with lightning bolts.

Good Weekend magazine, 2014

Paper diorama commissioned by Fairfax Ltd for the 30th anniversary issue of Good Weekend magazine, 27 September 2014.

2 large silver cake plates, 1 small silver cake plate, 1 round cake in two tiers, 1 individual cake slice, 9 candles, 9 candle flames, 1 small book with initials “G W”, 11 blue burst shapes on skewers, 1 rectangular support piece.

Also included is the printed Good Weekend issue from 27 September 2014.
