  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Vandyke Brothers established a building company in the 1920s in Punchbowl, NSW. In 1933 they obtained the Australian Patent Rights for the manufacturing of prefabricated homes under the trade name 'Sectionit'. The manufacturers mass produced parts that were standard across various house models.

In 1953, The Australian Housing Commission came to an agreement with the Vandyke brothers to construct the materials for 1000 homes out of their Villawood warehouse, a former munitions factory. The value of this contract was 1,000,000 pounds, or 1000 pounds per house.
The final Vandyke Brothers factory closed in 1953.
