  • Scope and Content
In part 1 of this interview, Judy Mundey describes her early life and education in Sydney and her administrative career with the Jewish Board of Deputies, the NSW Bookmakers’
Cooperative and the Builders Labourers Federation where she met Jack Mundey. Judy provides a personal account of her growing relationship with Jack and her move, after their
marriage in 1965, to the Communist Party of Australia. She discusses the organisation of early party activities and the involvement of the communist party in the industrial working
class as well as international issues of the day such as the Vietnam War, and outlines her own and the party’s growing interest in the emerging US women’s liberation movement and
women’s issues such as proportional representation, equal pay and childcare.

In part 2 of the interview Judy focuses on Jack Mundey's career during the 1970s, his growing interest in environmentalism and the uniqueness of both the organisation and activities of the Builders Labourers Union. She recounts, in detail, Jack’s involvement in the first Green Ban at Kelly’s Bush, Hunters Hill and the emergence and acceleration of the movement across Sydney, including the renown Rocks Green Bans.

The interview also covers the 1971 split in the Communist Party of Australia and the effect of these changes on the unions in NSW.
