  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Henry Lawson Literary Society, Sydney, was established in 1928 with the objects of studying Australian literature, encouraging Australian writers and memorialising Henry Lawson and his writings. The founding president was A. G. Alanson, who held office in 1928, 1929 and 1931. Will Carter was president in 1930 and T. S. Browning in 1932-1934. After a period of inactivity in the mid-1930s, the Society was revived in 1938 under the presidency of P. B. Cox who held the office until 1949. Jack Vincent succeeded him as president.

    Collection was retained by P. B. Cox, the then president of the Society, passing to his son and subsequently to his grandson, John F. Cox.
