She discusses her career working in media including The Advertiser, London evening news, Sydney Morning Herald (SMH), and later becoming the Arts Editor at the SMH, mainly focusing on dance. Sykes discusses in detail the arts culture in Australia, including the growth of the Sydney Dance Company, Adelaide Festival of the Arts, and her approach to reviewing and critiquing dance and the arts.
