    In the early 1830s, in New South Wales, that Congregationalists, or Independents sought to form a church in Sydney by calling a minister, the Reverend W.M. Jarrett. The building in Pitt Street was opened in1846 with the Reverend Dr Robert Ross as minister.
    In 1957 the Joint Commission on Church Union was formed comprising delegates of the Congregational Union of Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia.
    In 1973, at an Assembly of the Congregational Union of Australia, a large majority of delegates, including those from the Pitt Street Congregational Church, voted in favour of entering the Uniting Church in Australia according to the Basis of Union document. In June 1977 the Uniting Church in Australia was inaugurated. The Pitt Street Congregational Church became the Pitt Street Parish of the Uniting Church in Australia on 22 June 1977.
