  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Marjorie Claire Nathan was born around 1915. She lived in Manly and, in 1929, received a scholarship to study a Drawing and Illustration Diploma at East Sydney Technical College (National Art School) in Darlinghurst. On 27 April 1940, she married Russell Alfred Dunstan (1901-1976) and afterwards lived in Mosman. She died on 17 October 2001.

  • Scope and Content
    Collection of 74 loose drawings and one sketchbook of 5 drawings made in pencil, with some in coloured chalk and crayon. Subjects are mostly nudes and life drawings of women and men, with some cranial studies, drapery studies and clothing sketches.

    3 photographic prints, studio portraits of an unidentified man in an Australian Army uniform, an unidentified woman wearing an Australian Army brooch, and a portrait of Marjorie Nathan dated "Oct 1934" on verso.

    Several drawings are signed "M. Nathan" and a few are dated. Photographic print of Marjorie Nathan is stamped on verso "YU1522; Dickinson Studio; late of Pitt St, Sydney; 23 The Corso, Manly". Sketchbook is annotated on cover "Marjorie Nathan (Dunstan); 28 Mulbray St, Mosman".
