  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Andrea Francolini (he/him) was born in the 1970s and raised in Italy, training in photography in Milan. Since 2000 Francolini has lived and worked in Sydney, Australia. He specialises in portraiture and nautical photography.

    The images were shot in Sydney in collaboration with Trans Pride Australia between 2018 and 2020. Trans Pride Australia Inc is a not-for-profit organisation that provides social support for trans and gender diverse people and their loved ones in Australia. This project is part of and has happened amidst a cultural and social tipping-point in Australia and many other countries in relation to people’s awareness of gender diversity, and the visibility of trans and gender diverse people in the last decade.

  • Scope and Content
    Comprises colour print photographs taken by Andrea Francolini on Canon 5d mark IV, 85mm f/1.2 lens and Canon r5 with 25- 105mm lens, printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Cotton Rag paper.

    Initiated and executed in collaboration with the organisation Trans Pride Australia, Francolini’s portraits document members of Sydney’s trans and gender diverse communities of varying ages and cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

    Eye2Eye is a series of close- up portraits produced in collaboration with Trans Pride Australia, with accompanying statements written by each sitter at the time their portrait was shot.
    I Am Who I Am is another series of full length portraits by Andrea Francolini.
