  • General note

The Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey was a national survey designed to gauge support for legalising same-sex marriage in Australia. The results were released on 15 November 2017. The survey returned 61.6% 'Yes' responses to the question 'Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?'

In 2021, Sydney's Mardi Gras was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with the parade on Oxford Street cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. NSW police tried to prevent a Pride in Protest (PIP) march, however an exemption to COVID-19 restrictions was granted and the protest rally was held on Oxford Street, Darlinghurst on 6 March 2021.

In 2022, Mardi Gras was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with the parade on Oxford Street cancelled again. On 5 March, protestors gathered at Taylor Square to demand the decriminalisation of sex work, the withdrawal of the Religious Discrimination Bill, and increased investment in social services. The protest was organised by the Community Action for Rainbow Rights (CARR) and Pride in Protest.
