Marcus Lee Gibbon (known as Lee Gibbon) was executive director of Transfield and first project director of the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. He was awarded four Construction Achievement Awards. His son, Greg Gibbon is an engineer and worked on the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and other NSW projects.

Transfield Pty Ltd was founded in 1956 by Carlo Salteri and Franco Belgiorno-Nettis. Transfield undertook major engineering projects including building bridges, dams, tunnels, coal power stations, oil rigs and power lines. Two major achievements were the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and the Gateway Bridge in Brisbane. In the 1990s the company acquired the Williamstown Naval Dockyard and built two frigates for the RAN. In 1996 Salteri and Belgiorno-Nettis dissolved their partnership with the Belgiorno-Nettis family keeping the name Transfield and the construction operations, while the Salteri family retained the North Sydney Headquarters and defence operations, renaming their company Tenix.
