The Nash (anglicised from Nacht) family were a Jewish family living in Bucharest, Romania, before the Second World War. On 18 November 1940, Joseph and Madeleine Nash, along with their children Rosita (born c 1923) and John, left their home, not knowing where they would settle. Their immigration journey took them through Istanbul, Ankara, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Tiberias, Habbaniyah, Basra, Karachi, Calcutta (Kolkata), Darjeeling, Singapore, Batavia (Jakarta), Surabaya, Darwin, Townsville and Brisbane, before they landed in a flying boat at Rose Bay, Sydney, on 22 April 1941.   Joseph bought a block of flats at 59 Wolseley Road Point Piper and Rosita and John attended school locally. Joseph was later interned as an enemy alien after Romania entered the War allied to Germany. After the War, Joseph and Madeleine moved to France.  Reference: Library acquisition file
