  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Ethel Jackson Morris was born in Victoria in 1891 the daughter of landowner and pastoralist, James Jackson Morris. Interested in art from an early age, Ethel attended the National Gallery School Art School from 1910-1920 and published her first children's book, 'All Among the Fairies', in 1909 at the age of 17. In 1915 she contributed work to Dame Nellie Melba’s book of Australian art and literature and her second book was released in 1921. The same year she also held a solo exhibition at the Fine Art Society's Gallery. Ethel travelled to Europe in 1922 to expand her studies and married Captain John Overton in 1930. Ethel Jackson Morris died in Sydney in 1985.

  • Scope and Content
    Drawing in pen and ink of an elfin creature in profile, sitting on a toadstool reading papers.
    The drawing has been mounted on green board and includes a handwritten inscription on the back by the artist and the date Xmas 1911.
