John William Lindt operated a photography studio in Grafton from 1863. This photograph was most likely taken as part of John William Lindt's series of tableaus of Indigenous persons of the Clarence River region. - Scope and ContentStudio portrait of an unidentified Indigenous Australian man and woman. In the staged portrait, both figures are shown in European clothing; the male figure's chest is revealed to show ritual scarification marks; the female figure stands next to him, her dress lowered to her waist.
