ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

John William Lindt operated a photography studio in Grafton from 1863. This photograph was most likely taken as part of John William Lindt's series of tableaus of Indigenous persons of the Clarence River region.
Scope and Content
Studio portrait of an unidentified Indigenous Australian man and woman. In the staged portrait, both figures are shown in European clothing; the male figure's chest is revealed to show ritual scarification marks; the female figure stands next to him, her dress lowered to her waist.
