    Marele Day was born in 1947 in Pagewood, a suburb of Sydney. After graduating from Sydney University she travelled extensively and lived in Italy, France and Ireland. She published her first novel, Shirley's song, in 1983 but is best known for her detective novels featuring the Sydney private eye, Claudia Valentine. The third of these, The last tango of Dolores Delgado, won the prestigious international Shamus award for the best paperback original of 1992. She has also published poetry and short stories.
