    Gabrielle Carey is an Australian writer noted for the teenage novel, 'Puberty Blues', which she co-wrote with Kathy Lette. Published in 1979 this novel was the first teenage novel published in Australia that was written by teenagers about growing up a Sydney beachside suburb. In 1981 it was made into a film by Bruce Beresford, and in 2012 was adapted as a TV series. Carey and Lette also wrote a column for the Sun-Herald using the nom de plume ‘The Salami Sisters’. In the 1980s Carey lived in Mexico and Ireland. She published an autobiographic account, Just Us, in 1984. She returned to Australia in the 1990s. Her published works include; In My Father’s House (1992), The Borrowed Girl (1994), So Many Selves (2006), Waiting Room (2009), Moving among Strangers: Randolph Stow and My Family (2013) and Only Happiness Here: In Search of Elizabeth von Arnim (2020).
