Back in Australia, she appeared in Sydney cabaret, musical comedies, and pantomimes. In 1943, while on tour in Melbourne, she married Sydney financier Ian Mathieson Jacoby. They lived at Vaucluse, Sydney, and divorced in 1971. In 1972 she was awarded an MBE for community service. Elsa died at home in Vaucluse on 25 March 1994.
