The NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout (or Koori Knockout) is the largest gathering of Aboriginal people each year in NSW, and the most significant sporting and social event for many suburban and rural Aboriginal communities. Held over the October long-weekend, thousands of players and their supporters converge from all parts of the State for the tournament, fielding men’s, women’s and junior teams.

In October 2004, members of the Rotumah family from Tweed Heads, travelled to Sydney to attend the Koori Rugby league Knockout event at Redfern Oval, staying at the City Hotel, Ashfield. The Rotumah clan are keen supporters of all Banjalung Nation teams and in 2004 the Wollumbin Warriors represented Tweed.

Jamie James is an independent Sydney photographer who has documented Indigenous communities and events for over 20 years, including commissioned work for the Koori Mail, government agencies, and NGO sector.
