  • Scope and Content
    Three mounted photographs capturing the float depicting Australia's Flora during the procession to the Sydney Harbour Bridge for its opening celebrations on 19 March 1932. One small photograph and one large photograph show the front of the float, heavily decorated with vegetation, with two young women and five young children dressed as native flowers standing atop it. One large photograph shows the rear of the float as it passes the Health Department building at 93-97 Macquarie Street, Sydney.

  • General note

    The Australia's Flora float was the joint project of the Wild Life Preservation Society, The Australian Forest League and the Teachers’ Federation Horticultural Society. These photographs were given as a commemorative gift to Roy Frederick Bennett, President of the Wild Life Preservation Society, for his involvement in organising the float.

    The small photograph is a reduced version of one of the large photographs, cropped slightly differently to show some variant details around the edges.
