  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Len Fox (1905-2004) was a left-wing journalist, prolific author, artist and social activist based in Kings Cross. His uncle was the painter Emanuel Phillips Fox (1865-1915) and his auntie Ethel Carrick Fox (1872-1952). His partner was playwright Mona Brand (1915-2007). In the 1940s Fox was briefly a student in the Sydney ‘Studio of Realist Artists’ depicting post-war social realism and then later in his life he was involved in the ‘Save the Loo Committee’ protesting against high-rise redevelopment in Woolloomooloo in the 1960s. Fox’s illustrations may be found adjacent to his published works of writing, especially during the 1960s in the form of newspapers and pamphlets.
