  • General note

Some of the photographs in the album appear to be taken on the roof of the Chief Secretary's building at 121 Macquarie Street, sometimes showing the Department of Lands building's distinctive onion clock tower on Bridge Street in the background. The new Lands Department building, designed by James Barnet, was built in two stages, 1876-80 and 1888-93. The dome had been completed in 1891. After 1893 the building was shared by Lands and by Mines and Agriculture, but later reverted to Lands alone. The Department of Agriculture later occupied a building at the Southern end of the Department of Education building on Bent Street.
