    William Withers (1855-1937) studied pharmacy in England and migrated to Australia in 1881. He opened a pharmacy in Burwood in 1881 and was the only chemist between Ashfield and Parramatta, New South Wales. He later opened pharmacies at Randwick, Enmore and Young, New South Wales and was an active member of the Pharmaceutical Society of New South wales.

  • Scope and Content
    Half bound notebook in black leather and marbled paper containing handwritten manuscript in ink and numerous clippings. The notebook contains recipes for medical and veterinary use, as well as photographic compounds, insecticides, stain removal and other material. It also includes pasted labels, recipes and adverts from William Withers, Enmore, Sydney, W Withers Central Drug Co., Smethwick, UK, J Scott, Randwick, Sydney, Eames, Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney and others.
