Collection history
Lyon & Turnbull, The Contents of Lowood House, Sale number 654 (online), 06 October 2021, lot 322, with title ‘Gibraltar, Scrapbook’. Constance Crum Ewing (1899-1982) and her husband Ian Bogle Monteith Hamilton (1890-1971) moved to Lowood House in 1947, the property inherited by their son Alexander Hamilton (1932-2020). It is not known how the album came into the possession of the Hamilton family. Newspaper reports on the death of Barron Field in 1846 note his property and effects were dispersed amongst family and friends. Reference: Library correspondence file
Scope and Content
Album comprising prints, watercolours, drawings, and textual material. Album pages are a variety of colours, bound in a leather binding of brown leather, with blind and gold tooling around the edge of the covers.
