    Liz Anelli was born in England, and emigrated to Newcastle, NSW in 2012. She is an illustrator whose picture books have been nominated for and won many awards, including CBCA Picture Book of the year and the NSW Premiers History Awards.

    Anelli has a unique style and produces her highly textured illustrations using a combination of drawing, paint, mixed media collage and digital collage. Her process involves much experimentation to capture the look and feel of place to produce authentic representations.

    In 2015, Anelli was awarded the May Gibbs Children's Literature Trust Fellowship. When researching for the picture book Desert Lake, she won an Australia Council grant to research Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre) and in 2017 Desert Lake was shortlisted for the New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards - Patricia Wrightson Prize for Children's Books and was also a CBCA Book of the Year Award Notable Book.

    In 2021, Anelli’s book Dry to Dry won CBCA Book of the Year Award - Eve Pownall Award for Information Books and a Whitley Award - The Royal Zoological Society of NSW Award for Best Introduction to Ecology for Children. Anelli has also been an ambassador for Books in Homes and reviewer for Reading Time.

  • Scope and Content
    ​This collection is a representative sample of the work produced by award winning illustrator Liz Anelli during her time living in Newcastle, New South Wales from 2012-2022. It includes preliminary sketches, roughs, collage elements as well as mixed media base artworks and digital files, all of which document the development of concept from sketch to finished digital artwork.
