    Peter Solness is a photographer with a career as a photojournalist and landscape photographer specialising in night time photography. For this Aboriginal rock carvings series, he photographed each site using his technique of 'light painting’, which involves hand lighting sites at night and using long exposures to create an illuminated effect.

  • Scope and Content
    A collection of 14 digital photographs documenting Aboriginal rock engravings illuminated at night, at various sites around Sydney 2007-2016. Locations include: North Bondi, Mackenzies Point and Jibbon Head, Royal National Park. Engraved into the sandstone by the Eora and Dharawal people, these ancient rock carvings feature totemic outlines of fish, animals and mythical figures.
