  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Milada and Alexander (Sasha) Fischl (later Fisher) emigrated to Australia from Czechoslovakia, after having survived the Holocaust and internment in the Theresienstadt concentration camp at Terezin during the Second World War. Their five-year-old son, Zdenek, died while at the camp. They arrived in Australia on the Ugolino Vivaldi in 1949 and were naturalised in 1955. Part of the lively artistic community in Sydney, Milada opened a private art gallery and Alexander ran Alexander S. Fisher & Co., a textile agency.

    Donor was the daughter of a family friend of Alexander and Milada Fischl and inherited the collection.
