Ryde Water Pumping Stations No. 1 and No. 2 were created as part of the Upper Nepean
Water Supply Scheme which developed from the late 1860s. Construction began on the Ryde Station No. 2, in 1915, but was delayed due to World War I. It was built to augment the steam-powered water pumping station No. 1, which serviced the northern suburbs from 1891 to 1930 (demolished 1961). Pumping Station No. 2 operated as a steam-pumping station until its conversion to electric power in 1987-1981. Ryde Pumping Station was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 2002.

Photograph album, possibly compiled during the 1960s and 1970s. The album contains photographic prints and reprints of Ryde Water Pumping Station, including its construction, industrial machinery, turbines, impellers, alternators, boilers, locomotives on the old railway tracks, and coal conveyors. Also included is a 16-page booklet (pasted in), ‘Inauguration of the New Water Pumping Station at Ryde for the maintenance of supply to the Northern Suburbs. Opening Ceremony, 15th.
