    John Cash Neild was an Australian policitian, known for his support of free trade, state protection for children and the insane, old age pensions and divorce reform. Born in Bristol, England in 1846, his family first migrated to New Zealand and then to Sydney in 1860. He was elected to the Woollahra Council in 1876 and also served as Mayor in 1888-89. He represented Paddington in the NSW Legislative Assembly in 1885 and after Federation was elected to the Senate a where he stayed until his loss in the 1910 election.

    As the Executive Commissioner for New South Wales to the Adelaide Jubilee International Exhibition in 1887, his costs of £4,950 saw him investigated by parliament for having used his office for profit and for extravagance. He was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing.

    The Adelaide Jubilee International Exhibition in 1887 was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of South Australia in December 1886 and the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne.

    Leather-bound volume containing a two page illuminated address given to John Cash Neild for his role as New South Wales Executive Commissioner for the Adelaide Jubilee International Exhibition which was held in 1887. It was presented by the New South Wales staff at the exhibition to convey their gratitude to Mr Cash and includes twelve signatures. It contains five photographs of the exhibition and one photograph of the outside of Jubilee Exhibition Building.
