Margo Thomas (1910-1980) was an actress, singer, dancer and teacher of dance and movement. Born Margaret Edwards in Liverpool, England, she married Australian actor and BBC radio broadcaster Wilfred Thomas. After moving to Australia in the 1940s, she became established in Sydney, while her husband returned to London, and the couple eventually divorced in 1977. Thomas developed her career as a dance educator, specialising in areas such as eurythmy, Indian dance and speech. After viewing some of William Blake’s works in Melbourne in 1947, she began to promote his works and philosophy with performances in which she sang, danced and recited his poetry. For the remainder of her life, Thomas continued these performances, touring eastern Australia and giving recitals in churches, halls and later in her own home, often in association with the Poets Theatre Group, which she formed in the 1960s.
