  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Damien Peter Parer (1912-1944) was a photographer and cameraman with the Commonwealth Department of Information during World War II. Parer was one of Australia's most well-known combat cameramen, and was cinematographer for Australia's first Oscar-winning film,'Kokoda Front Line!'. From 1940 until he was killed in action in 1944, he photographed the campaigns in the Middle East and New Guinea.

    Elizabeth Marie Cotter was born in Sydney on 17 April 1914. She married Damien Parer on 23 March 1944 at St Mary's Catholic Church, North Sydney. Their son Damien Robert Parer was born the following year.
