  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Suzanne Mourot (1918-2010), librarian and teacher, was born and raised in Noumea, New Caledonia where she studied philosophy. From 1935-1936 she attended the School for Teachers of French Abroad at University of Paris. She came to Australia in 1937. From 1937-1943 she coached in French conversation in at St Margaret’s and St Aidan’s in Brisbane. From 1939-1943 she tutored in French at Women’s College, University of Queensland. From 1938-1941 she attended University of Queensland, and from 1942-1944 did war-time work. In 1944 she received the Carnegie grant to attended Library School conducted by the Public Library of NSW. She joined the staff of the Mitchell Library, State Library of NSW in 1944 and was appointed Mitchell Librarian in 1968. She retired in 1979.
