  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Dianne Bates was born Dianne Nancy Amos in Peakhurst, N.S.W., on 20 March 1948. As well as writing for children, Bates' work has included teaching, journalism and being editor and manager of a provincial newspaper. She has developed a successful business, Wordaholic Workshop, and has worked as performer and writing tutor at over 200 schools. The Literature Board of the Australia Council has supported her writing through various grants. She has published over 120 books for young readers, as well as conducting writing workshops and lecturing at Wollongong University and in 2008 was awarded The Lady Cutler Prize for distinguished services to children’s literature.
