  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Andrew Murray was born in 1837 in the Macleay River district, and married Sarah Ann Pitkin in 1861. In the 1860s, Murray joined expeditions to Queensland to take up grazing land, later settling with his wife and children near Mackay. In 1869 the Murray family moved to Inverell, New South Wales. Andrew Murray acquired the ‘Hillside’ and ‘Bannockburn’ properties, focusing on wine production and sheep farming. For his wool and wine, Murray was awarded various exhibition certificates. Andrew Murray died in Tamworth in 1909.
