  Autograph letter signed, from [J.] P. Gaimard and [J. R. C.] Quoy to Louis de Freycinet in Paris, [presumed to be letter number 14] sent from Tongatabou, aboard the Astrolabe, 14 May 1827 (3 pages on a single folded sheet, wax seal, postmarks), describing their experiences on leaving New Zealand and their perilous time on the reefs off Tonga. [In Quoy’s hand, with short postscript added by Gaimard], signed by both men, with notes and edits in pencil [by Freycinet].
