  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

John Olsen was born in Newcastle, NSW, in 1928, and is recognised nationally and internationally as one of Australia's most significant and accomplished artists. He trained at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and was awarded the Archibald Prize in 2005 and the Wynne Prize in 1969 and 1985. In 2001 Dr John Olsen was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO). In 1977 he was awarded the O.B.E. for services to the Arts and in 1993 he was awarded an Australian Creative Fellowship.

Edge of the void is his first published folio of etchings. The series was inspired by the artist’s visits to Lake Eyre with naturalist Vincent Serventy in 1974 to witness the largest flood in recorded history, and was exhibited at the Australian Galleries the following year.
